The Art of Neighboring Week 2: The Time Barrier

SERIES TITLE

The Art of Neighboring

series overview
When Jesus was asked to sum up everything into one command, he said to love God with all we are and to love our neighbors as ourselves. This study will help you consider what would happen if every follower of Jesus took the Great Commandment literally. There are weekly videos and activities to help you step outside your front door and engage with your neighbors.

While this study is four weeks long, you can shorten it as needed to fit the number of weeks your group has available.

DISCUSSion questions
  • Have you ever had a spiritual conversation with a neighbor?
  • Read Luke 10:38-42. Do you associate more with Martha or Mary? If you were going to defend Martha at that moment, what would you say?

  • Which of the following myths do you struggle with the most?
      • Things will settle down someday.
      • More will be enough.
      • Everybody lives like this.
  • Do you currently live at a pace that allows you to be present in your neighborhood?
  • Imagine yourself with the time it would take to be a great neighbor. What are the things you would have to sacrifice to make that a reality? Why would it be worth it? What could change in your life or in your neighborhood?
  • Jay and his family made the decision to take their family night outside. They used the time normally spent inside to engage with their neighbors. What is something on your calendar you could look at and use that time to engage with your neighbors?
  • Jay said, “I made it a big deal in my head, but in reality, it was really simple. Loving my neighbors means treating people around me how I would like to be treated.”
