SERMON TITLE
Keys to Living a Life that Really Matters
Sermon Summary
In “Keys to Living a Life that Really Matters,” Dave Dummitt discusses the significance of getting close to God, discovering one’s purpose, enduring hardships, keeping an eternal perspective, and loving others based on Paul’s teachings in 2 Timothy 4. He challenges listeners to prioritize the eternal over the temporary and to love and support one another in their journeys. There is practical guidance here for living a life of significance by deepening faith, clarifying purpose, persevering through trials, and investing in meaningful connections.
Ice Breaker
Before we talk about living a life that really matters today, take a moment to share your answer to this question: If you could switch lives with any fictional character for a day, who would it be and why?
Discussion Questions
- Read 2 Timothy 4:17-18. Dave emphasized the importance of having a personal connection with God, not just following a religious set of rules or rituals. What specific action could you take to strengthen your relationship with God this summer?
- Look at Timothy’s purpose in 2 Timothy 4:1-2. Take a stab at putting your personal calling in life in a sentence. Can you do it? If not, how can you identify and pursue God’s purpose for your life in this season? What is a small but significant step into that purpose that you could take this week?
- Check out Paul’s admonition in 2 Timothy 4:5. How does a clear calling in life help you respond to hardships and trials better? Can you share an experience where you faced challenges while pursuing your purpose, and how did you handle them?
- What would keeping an eternal perspective look like for you? Here’s what it looked like for Paul: 2 Timothy 4:6-8. How do you currently attempt to keep eternal things in view? What could you do to be even more mindful of it?
- Look at the list of Paul’s relationships and the status of each in 2 Timothy 4:9-16. Why are relationships essential in living a life that really matters, and how can we cultivate them? What can you do to nurture a key relationship in your life this summer?
