Why I Sent My Child To Summer Camp

When we first heard about summer camp, we honestly weren’t sure we’d send our kids. Our schedules are packed—volleyball, school, a dozen other summer camps and activities—and when we heard the cost, our first reaction was no way. But we were at a service when Pastor Gene mentioned how much we invest in club sports and other camps for our kids, yet hesitate to invest the same way in their spiritual growth. That night, I looked over and my wife was already on the computer signing the kids up. Camp gave our kids something we’d always hoped for but hadn’t found yet: real community with their peers. They came back with friendships that will last forever—they belonged, and that’s priceless. Their love for God grew in a way that genuinely amazes you; even the words they use now revolve around Him. We’d encourage every parent to send their kids. It’s the best investment you’ll ever make. We are beyond thankful for Eastside, for Next Gen ministries, for the small group leaders and pastors who invested in the next generation.
