You could say it’s “En Fuego!” This summer, we’re diving into the fires we encounter – anger, bitterness, pain, and even the power of the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. Together, we’ll discover how God meets us in the middle of the heat and uses even difficult seasons to shape, strengthen, and transform us.

Mike shifts the En Fuego series to a different kind of fire in Week 3: Consumed. He contrasts our culture’s consumer mindset, even the way we can approach church and God along with the call to be consumed by God as living sacrifices. Using the dramatic showdown between Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, Mike shows how Israel had wavered between two opinions, chasing powerless idols instead of the true and living God. The turning point is surrender: trading our own willpower for God’s power, and moving from asking “what’s in it for me” to laying our whole lives on the altar.

- Mike described the “drive-thru” approach to faith, pulling up to church like a consumer placing an order. Be honest: where do you catch yourself treating God, or church, like a service you consume instead of a Person you follow?
- “Our God is a consuming fire.” What does it do to your picture of God to think of Him as fire that is holy, purifying, awe-inspiring, and not just safe and comfortable? (Hebrews 12:28-29)
- Elijah asks, “How long will you waver between two opinions?” and “the people said nothing.” Where are you wavering, halfway in with God? Why is the middle so comfortable? (1 Kings 18:21)
- Isaiah mocks a man who burns half a log for firewood and worships the other half — trusting “something that can’t help him at all.” Mike named modern idols: image, materialism, success, status, relationships, approval. What’s a “block of wood” you’ve been tempted to bow to? (Isaiah 44:16-19)
- What does it actually mean to be a “living sacrifice”? Mike said being consumed reshapes your plans, identity, and priorities, but Jesus says when you lose your life you find it. Where is God asking you to let something be reshaped? (Romans 12:1-2 · Matthew 16:25)
- “The greatness of a person is in direct proportion to the measure of their surrender.” Where is surrender hardest for you right now? What are you white-knuckling?
- Mike said there’s power in powerlessness, the same power that raised Jesus from the dead is available to us. Where do you need to trade your own “puny willpower” for God’s power this week? (Philippians 4:13 · Ephesians 1:19-20)

Close your time together by praying as a group:
- Thank God that He is the one true God, worthy of all our worship and trust.
- Confess anywhere you’ve been wavering between two opinions, halfway in with God.
- Ask God to reveal any “idols” (image, success, approval) that you’ve been bowing to instead of Him.
- Surrender yourself to Him this week: “Consume me, God. My ego, my plans, my passions are Yours.”
